Abstract

Francesco Bracci’s book Italiani contro l’opera puts resentments towards opera in Italy since the post-war period into critical perspective. On the basis of an historically informed mixed-methods approach, Bracci combines musicological, cultural, sociological and Italianistic reflection. His solid investigation of repertoires, audiences and established narratives about Italian melodramma proves key to a better understanding of opera’s crisis in contemporary society.
